Bangalore, April 9: Identifying himself as Dr Srinivas Reddy, a senior government officer from Andhra Pradesh, a mysterious e-mailer sought information from a top IAS officer and even despatched e-mails to the Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

E Rajshekarappa, Director, Economic and Statistics, State Agriculture Commission filed a complaint with the Vidhana Soudha Police asking them to track the impersonator who wrote emails from the id prithishgowda@gmail.com.

The police are not clear at this point what the imposter’s real name is.

Reddy allegedly communicated with the chief minister and chief secretary and sought information on the working of the Karnataka Agricultural Commission.

He is also said to have offered suggestions on how to improve the body’s functioning.

Reddy was exposed after Rajashekharappa sought his postal address and telephone number. "I wanted to invite him for a one-to-one, so I could share the details he had sought and clarify his doubts."

However, Dr Reddy did not respond at all.

When several reminders went in vain, Rajashekharappa contacted his counterparts in Andhra Pradesh and sought Reddy’s contact details. Government officials in the state told Rajashekharappa that there was no officer named Prithish Gowda.

The Vidhana Soudha police said the impersonator is likely to be a habitual mischief monger, who is trying to bring disrepute to the state government.

"We are seeking the help of the Cyber Crime Police to track Dr Reddy," said a senior police officer investigating the case.

The incident comes a week after 49-year-old S V Rao, an assistant agriculture officer from Hindupur, was arrested for impersonating as an IAS officer in order to avail government facilities he was not entitled to.
