ICICI Bank Staff Arrested For Siphoning Off Rs 17.36 Lakh from...

Mumbai, Feb 3: An ICICI bank employee Rakesh Vishwakarma and his associate Nitin Sharma have been arrested by Mumbai Police on charge of siphoning off Rs 17.36 lakhs from the bank account of model Anupama Verma by using a duplicate ATM debit card 107 times.

Police said, the thefts took place between June 2011 and January 2012, during which Anupama Verma had gone for shoots  outside India and she never checked her bank balance during this period.

It was only when she issued a cheque on ICICI bank and it bounced, that Anupama checked her bank balance to find that the entire balance had been wiped off.

Anupama Verma has an account with ICICI Bank  at its Waterfield branch in Bandra, Mumbai. Last yer, she had deposited nearly Rs 17,36,000 before going on shoots outside India. There had been no major debits/credits in her account during these months.

Rakesh Vishwakarma, working in ICICI Bank’s Nariman Point branch came to know of this, and with the help of Nitin Sharma, made a duplicate ATM debit card.

Police arrewsted both Rakesh and Nitin after Anupama Verma lodged an FIR with Borivali police.

Police recovered Rs 7 lakh cash and a car from the accused.
