The accused identified as Adeyemi Omotoyo Julis and Ayobe Happiness NMA were supplying illegally manufactured tablets and drugs in bulk without a doctor’s reference through these websites.

The accused were involved in hacking databases and diverting huge funds into fraudulent accounts. Two other Nigerian nationals, allegedly involved in creating these phishing websites, are still absconding.

The case was registered and investigated by Cyber Crime Police of CCS, Detective Department, after it received a complaint from General Manager of Apollo Pharmacy, Jubilee Hills.

He alleged that an unknown person created a fake website in Apollo’s name and was supplying drugs which were spurious and sub-standard.

The drugs supplied through fake websites included Potassium cyanide, Alprazolam tablets, Subutex tablets, Demerol injection, Ethylphenidate Crystal, Phentermine tablets and more.

"The accused hacked websites like GoDaddy and accessed client information. They diverted funds into fraudulent accounts. The group hired locals and offered them 20-30 per cent commission for providing their bank accounts wherein the money could be diverted," additional DCP KCS Raghu Vir told India Today.

The gang knew that bogus medicines if supplied through fake branded websites would be trusted by people in India and abroad, he added.
