Heavy rainfall likely in Mumbai, Konkan region over next 48 hours

Mumbai, Sep 20, 2019 : Mumbai and its neighbouring areas are set to receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. The weather agency had predicted that isolated places over Konkan and Goa are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday. In its weather bulletin, the IMD further added that certain places over Gujarat and Central Maharashtra are also likely to receive heavy downpour throughout the day on Friday. Mumbai
The rainfall activity has gained momentum as a low pressure area lies over East central Arabian Sea off north Maharashtra coast with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. The cyclonic circulation is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked and concentrate into a Depression during next 48 hours, Yahoo reported.

In its All India Weather Warning Bulletin the IMD said that heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Coastal Karnataka. In the wake of the current weather situations, strong winds, speed reaching 40-50 kmph, likely to prevail over east-central and adjoining northeast the Arabian Sea and south Gujarat and north Maharashtra coasts.

On Thursday, the IMD had issued a red alert for Mumbai, which turned flat as the city hardly witnessed rainfall. In its weather bulletin, the IMD had predicted very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and adjoining areas from September 19 to September 21. Moreover, all schools and junior colleges in the metropolis were shut on Friday after the IMD forecast.
