Former Chief Justice YK Sabharwal Dies at 73

New Delhi, July 04, 2015:  Former Chief Justice of India YK Sabharwal died in New Delhi last evening at the age of 73. He is survived by two sons.

YK SabharwalThe cremation will take place today.

Justice Sabharwal was Chief Justice from November 1, 2005 to January 13, 2007.

He was elevated as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court in 1986 and became its permanent judge in April 1987.

From Delhi High Court, he went to Bombay High Court as chief justice before being appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court on January 28, 2001.

Justice Sabharwal delivered several important judgments including the verdict in January 2006, that held the dissolution of Bihar Assembly as illegal and unconstitutional.
