Hassan, Mar 06, 2024: Two farmers, employed at a betelnut estate, narrowly escaped an elephant attack. The incident took place on March 3 in Kesguli village in Hassan district in Karnataka.

A video of the incident shows an elephant entering the farm and trying to attack one of the farmers who was engaged in field work.

The man can be seen fleeing as the elephant tries to attack him. The video shows him trying to go inside the house, but finding it locked, he takes cover under a parked car near the farmhouse.

The CCTV cameras on the site captured another man trying to hide from the wild animal.

It has been reported that ’Karadi,’ the elephant that tried to attack the two men, was responsible for killing an individual named Vasanth near Belur on January 4.

Notably, a total of five incidents of death due to elephant attacks have been reported from Karnataka’s neighbouring state Kerala this year.

A 70-year-old woman died after she was attacked by an elephant in Kanjiraveli area in Idukki in Kerala on Monday. She had gone into a rubber plantation near the forest when the elephant attacked her. Following her death, residents of Kothamangalam in Idukki staged a protest over the rise in human-animal conflict in the region.

In February, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited his constituency Wayanad after protests following the death of three people after elephant attacks. He had said that Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka should ’coordinate with each other’ to solve the human-animal conflict.
