FIRA lost it’s one of the strongest pillers, Mr. U Kalanathan

Mangaluru, Mar 07, 2024: Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations (FIRA) sadly pays its respects to our patron Mr. U Kalanathan, one of the pillars of our movement. He was a founder member of FIRA and managed all its official matters as General Secretary till his retirement from this office due to advancing age. He was 84 years of age. He however continued his association with FIRA in an advisory capacity as its patron. A highly principled, strict disciplinarian which he applied first to his own life and family. He was a source of strength to our movement from the time it was founded. His body was handed over to the Kozhikode medical college as per his wishes said Dr Narendra Nayak, President of FIRA.

Apart from his duties as a teacher in a school he has devoted his life and time to promote scientific temper and rationalism in the society. During his tenure as General Secretary of FIRA, he had very sincerely and effortlessly coordinated various activities of FIRA like Parliament march on 25 Nov 2013 to demand separation of religion from politics and implementation of UCC in a secular way etc. said Prof Dr Sudesh Ghoderao, General Secretary of FIRA. Very soon an all India basis condolence meeting will be scheduled, he added.

The office bearers of affiliate member organizations of FIRA, Avinash Patil and Madhav Bawage of Maharashtra Andhshraddha Nirmulan Samiti, Iringal Krishnnan of Kerala Yuktivadi Sangham, Sajit C of Science Trust, Kerla, B Sambasiva Rao of Manav Vikas Vedika,Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Chelimela Rajeshwer of Jan Vigyan Vedika, Telangana, R Tamilselvan of Rationalist Forum, Tamil Nadu, Harish Deshmukh of Akhil Bharatiya Andhshraddha Nirmulan Samiti, Harchand Singh Bhinder and Jaswant Mohali of Tarkshhel Society, Punjab, M N Buddha of Atheist Society Andhra Pradesh and Basanati Acharya of Humanist and Rationalist Organization, Odisha have also offered their condolences.
