In addition to the Lok Sabha elections, the ECI will also unveil the election schedule for several state assemblies, including Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. The schedule will be made public at 3 pm on March 16 (Saturday), with the ECI expressing readiness for the busy weeks ahead.

Newly appointed election commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu assumed their roles at the ECI headquarters in New Delhi on Friday. Their appointment follows the recent resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goel ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The selection of Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu was made by a three-member committee led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury representing the opposition. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also participated in the decision-making process.

This development comes after the Central government issued a notification for the appointment of the two election commissioners, selected from the bureaucratic sphere by the committee.
