New Delhi, Jan 15, 2020:   More than 500 students and teachers at the Indian Statistical Institute have condemned the violence unleashed on the night of January 5, 2020, at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and expressed solidarity with its students.

"We see this as part of systematic attacks in Indian educational institutes, which is a disgrace to our nation and a threat to the seats of intellect," they said, pointing to recent incidents in Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu Univeristy.

Masked goons went on the rampage inside the JNU campus on January 5, targeting students and staff in what the JNU teachers’ association called an "orgy of violence".

India Today TV’s two-part #JNUTapes investigation, broadcast this past weekend, made the following revelations:

  • -    Two French language students, including one identifying himself as an ABVP activist, testified to the RSS-linked ABVP student group’s involvement in the violence.
  • -    A masked woman seen in viral footage and images of the violence was identified as an ABVP activist.
  • -   An Left/AISA activist admitted her involvement in the shutting down of university servers earlier.
