Delhi teen out for a joyride in father’s car gets hijacked by group

Delhi, Sep 03, 2018 : Out on a drive in his father’s sedan, a 17-year-old boy was robbed of the car even as he and his friend narrowly escaped getting kidnapped by the robbers in outer Delhi’s Rohini on Friday evening, police said.

 

In his statement to the police, the boy said that the three gun-wielding men spoke about robbing the car in order to execute a “murder” plan.

However, police remained clueless about the identity of the alleged miscreants till Sunday evening.

Son of a property dealer, the boy is a class 12 student of a private school and lives with his family in Rohini.

On Friday evening, he and his friend, who had recently moved to the same neighbourhood, decided to go on a drive. The boy took out his father’s white Chevrolet Cruze for the purpose of showing his friend around.

As they reached near the Japanese Park around 8 pm, they were intercepted by two men riding a motorcycle.

“The riders overtook us and stopped the motorcycle in front of my car,” the boy said in his statement.

One of the suspects then approached the passenger side of the car and knocked on the window.

“When my friend rolled down the window, the man pointed a gun and threatened to kill us. He asked us to get out of the front seats of the car and go to the rear seat,” the boy told police.

The two boys reportedly panicked and got off the car. “Moments later, the robbers were joined by their third partner who sat in the driver’s seat. We requested the robbers to take our car but not force us to sit with them in the vehicle,” the boy alleged, adding that the alleged robbers heeded to their request.

Police said the boys alleged that the robbers claimed they needed the car to commit a murder urgently and that the vehicle owner could anyway recover the cost of the car from the insurance company.

As the robbers sped away in the car and on their motorcycle, the boy called the police. “We have registered a case of robbery and robbery with attempt to cause grievous hurt,” said Rajneesh Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini).

Another investigator said that the fact that a minor was driving a car was “inconsequential” at this stage as the focus was on nabbing the robbers and recovering the car.

“A lot of vehicles are robbed or stolen to commit another crime. In this case, it could be handiwork of some desperate criminals who needed a car to commit a murder. We would know of the murder plan only after we nab them,” said the investigator.
