Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar under Congress attack after Jibe at Aamir Khan

New Delhi July 31, 2016 : Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has been caught in a controversy after taking a swipe at actor Aamir Khan for his last year’s comments on intolerance, with the Congress launching a scathing attack on him.

 

"An actor had said his wife was afraid of living in this country.... How does someone dare to talk about this country? If anyone speaks like this, he has to be taught the lesson of his life," the minister had said while speaking at a book release function in Pune.

"It was an arrogant statement. However poor my family is, however small my house is, I have to love my house," he had added.

The minister had further said at the time the actor made the statement, many people had protested against his remark and even uninstalled the mobile application of an online shopping site he was associated with. The firm had also pulled out the advertisement featuring him.

Mr Khan had made the comment last November while speaking on the ongoing debate on intolerance, explaining how the growing incidents were affecting people. It had created a huge controversy and a police case was filed against him and his wife Kiran Rao too.
 
The Congress took on Mr Parrikar with some biting comments.
