DIG roopa vs raoBengaluru, July 27, 2017 (PTI): The turbulence in the state prisons department is unlikely to end anytime soon. DGP Sathyanarayana Rao, who was sent on leave following allegations of providing special treatment to some VIP inmates, has sent legal notice to former DIG (prisons) D Roopa threatening defamation suit.

Roopa, who had made allegations in her report to the higher-ups, has rejected Rao’s demand for an apology. Rao was sent on leave and Roopa was transferred out of prisons department after the report embarrassed the Siddaramaiah government.

In the notice sent to Roopa on July 17, Rao demanded an unconditional apology within three days, failing which he would file a defamation suit for Rs 50 crore.

When asked about Rao’s demand for apology, Roopa said, “There is no defamation case filed against me, so why should I apologise.”Rao’s advocate, however, said, “We are on it. A defamation suit will be filed at the earliest.”
