CPM leader attacked with axe during temple festival in Kozhikode, dies

Kozhikode, Feb 23, 2024: A local leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was murdered during a temple festival in Kozhikode district on Thursday night.

The victim, identified as PV Satyanathan, was at the Cheriyapuram temple in Koyilandi during a scheduled musical event. He was suddenly attacked with an axe, sustaining wounds to his back and neck. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died.

The killers, who fled the spot, are yet to be identified. Police said they suspect personal enmity led to the attack on Satyanathan.

PV Satyanathan served as the CPI(M) Koyilandi central local committee secretary.

In the wake of the incident, the CPI(M) has called for a bandh in Koyilandi on Friday.
