Bangalore, November 11 : On the advice of his priest,  the Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is performing a host of tantric rituals to ward off the evil eye even as disqualified BJP MLAs sacrificed a donkey in a temple in neighbouring Kerala, reports MidDay.

Yeddyurappa is performing several protective poojas to ward off ’evil spells’ like the Shatrusamhara ritual performed by disqualified MLAs

With the firm belief that his detractors are engaging in black magic to try and finish him off, Yeddyurappa is performing his own set of rituals to ensure he gets a protective cloak from the evil being wished upon him.Disqualified MLAs, led by Beluru Gopalakrishna and Goolihatti Shekar, had performed the Shatrusamhara ritual at a temple in Kerala last week.

They had sacrificed a donkey as part of the ritual to pay the CM back in his own coin, but the CM had termed it black magic.

With a view to counter their move, Yeddyurappa is understood to have taken part in a variety of protective rituals including Aghorastra Homa, Manushyukta Paaraayana, Aditya Hridaya and Narasimha Kawacha.

"Gardabha Prayoga (donkey sacrifice) is a very powerful form of black magic done in Malayala Tantrashastra. To protect a person from this, we have to perform equally strong rituals," said Bhanuprakash Sharma, Yeddyurappa’s family priest."I advised the chief minister to perform certain rituals, which he did, and he is now safe from all harm."

Sharma said the stars were bad for Yeddyurappa between October 10 and November 10 and he is likely to see some tough days until the end of the month. The beginning of the next month will bring good tidings, however, which will last till May.

Sharma said he had got wind of black magic being directed at the CM a long time ago and had asked him to perform the rituals just before the vote of confidence last month.

Yeddyurappa’s family members conducted some rituals at the Hucchuraya Swamy temple in his hometown Shikaripura in Shimoga, while the chief minister chanted Manushyukta Paarayana and the Gayatri Mantra.

Hucchuraya is the name of Hanuman, the monkey god, and Yeddyurappa had visited the Gali  Anjaneya temple in Bangalore just before the vote of confidence on October 14. The Gali Anjaneya temple is a Hanuman temple famous for rituals performed for warding off the evils of black magic.

"Gardabha Prayoga performed by the disqualified legislators on Diwali Amavasya was just one of the latest instances. We have come to know of many people who have been indulging in black magic against the chief minister right from the day he came to power. We are countering them on a day-to-day basis," said Sharma.

Tantra Rituals

Pandit Sharma said Aghorastra Homa is an aggressive way of worshipping Lord Shiva to make Him protect the devotee from evil forces.

Manushyukta Paarayana is a mantra, which, when chanted, forms a protective layer around the devotee. This mantra was taught by Sage Viswamitra to Lord Sri Ram when he fought against demons to protect the yagna which was being performed by the sage.

Aditya Hridaya is a homa done to appease the Sun god and make the devotee acquire His protection

Narasihma Kavacha provides the devotee with the protective armour of Lord Narasimha, the lion-faced form of Lord Vishnu.
