Madikeri, Nov 04, 2014:  Addressing Congress workers during a meeting held at Cauvery Hall in Madikeri on Nov 3, Monday,  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that ’Anna Bhagya’ scheme  meant to provide rice to poor people at Re 1 per kg, was a part of the election manifesto of Congress party and is not a programme introduced in a hurry, as mentioned by some.

Siddaramaiah_ The scheme was implemented as guaranteed in the manifesto  of the Congress.  The former BJP government provided only 3-4 kgs of rice to poor. Moreover, the cost of the rice was higher and it was difficult for the poor families to manage with the same. Hence, the state government implemented Anna Bhagya scheme so that the poor may get sufficient rice and no person may starve in this state.  CM Siddaramaiah reiterated that it was the good scheme of the Congress and he announced the same after taking over as the Chief Minister.


 Corpn / Board presidents :    The chief minister at this  occasion said that the selection of chiefs for Corporation / Boards has become a challenging task as there are many senior leaders who worked for the party.

Also there are requisits for the posts, from sitting  MLAs and MLA contestants who failed in the assembly elections. However, the list of the names will be finalised within 15 days, the Chief Minister said. He added that there are as many as 90 corporation /boards and opportunities will be given to the representatives from all districts so that every district will get 2-3 posts.

District in-Charge Minister KJ George, Minister for Public Works Dr H C Mahadevappa, MLC T John, former MP H Vishwanath and district Congress President B T Pradeep among others were present.
