Air force officer commits suicide with service revolver in Sirsa

Sirsa, Oct 26, 2016 : An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver here on Wednesday.

The officer, identified as Rakesh Kumar Tiwari, was the security in-charge at the IAF Sirsa station. He had moved from Delhi to Sirsa six months ago.

Tiwari was found dead in a Gypsy with his service weapon in the lap. No suicide note was found.

The officer, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, is survived by his wife and two children, who stay in Delhi.

Police have sent the body for autopsy at the civil hospital.

Sources said Tiwari returned to his house in the morning after a night shift. After some time, group captain Sanjeev Kumar called Tiwari for some work but the latter did not answer his phone. Then the group captain sent his guard to call Tiwari. The guard found the officer dead in his vehicle with a gunshot wound on his forehead.

Investigative officer inspector Subhash Chander said they were waiting for the post-mortem report. It is learnt that Tiwari was pulled up by his senior officer during a conference on Tuesday. The air force has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.

A batchmate of Tiwari described him as a gentle and soft-spoken person.
