According to reports, a passenger travelling on Air India flight AI-284 from Kathmandu to Kolkata noticed some insect in the food that was served on board. On closer inspection, the passenger found that it was a housefly. The passengers lodged a formal complaint with Air India authorities when the flight landed in Kolkata on Saturday.

The incident comes just days after a  passenger spotted a lizard in the meal tray provided by the airline. The incident took place on Air India’s Delhi-London (AI-111) flight.

However, Air India had then denied any such incident terming reports as false and baseless. Air India has investigated the incident and has found it to be false and baseless. No such complaint by any passenger of the flight has been received on board the flight or at the Air India office in London, a statement issued by the airline had said.

Describing the incident as a serious one, Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju had said strong action will be taken against those responsible.

"This is a serious issue. Air India is not expected to serve lizards, nor are cooks expected to cook lizards," Raju said.
