Air India engineers protest over assault on colleague by pilot at Chennai Airport

Chennai, January 17, 2015: Air India engineers on Saturday morning staged a dharna at the Chennai Airport to protest against the alleged assault on one of their colleagues by a pilot in the cockpit of a Paris-bound flight.

They have also demanded police action against the pilot.

According to reports, the pilot and the engineer had an argument inside the cockpit of Chennai-Paris flight AI 143 over delay in departure and following which the pilot assaulted the engineer.
 
The passengers were also reportedly agitated over the delay.

The engineer, who was injured in the attack, was taken to a hospital with a bleeding nose.

Meanwhile, the accused pilot has been taken off the roster, pending investigation.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked for a full report regarding the incident from Air India. It said that it will take appropriate action after hearing from both sides.

The flight, with 142 people onboard, finally took off after a two-hour delay, the reports said.
