Mumbai, Dec 14: Mumbai’s Assistant Commissioner of Police Baburao Gaikwad, shot himself with his service revolver inside his cabin at Dahisar police station on Monday after is mistress insulted him in front of other policemen for not paying her money, reports Mumbai Mirror.

Gaikwa was driven to this drastic step because of this extra-marital affair gone horribly wrong.Gaikwad, 57, was under tremendous pressure after a public showdown with the woman he was involved with last month.


The 37-year-old woman, an employee of a Dahisar bar, had confronted Gaikwad at the Dahisar check naka beat chowkey in presence of scores of the police officer’s subordinates.


The woman, angry because Gaikwad had stopped paying her money, later went to the Dahisar police station and created a scene there.


In the evening, she had tried committing suicide by consuming sleeping pills.At the time of going to press, the woman was being interrogated. Her mobile phone has been confiscated.
 

Sources said Gaikwad had called her before killing himself.Sources said the woman, 37, went to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali, where Gaikwad, a father of three - two daughters, both doctors, and a son - was rushed after he shot himself around 2.45 pm.


Confirming investigators are looking at the extra-marital angle, Additional Commissioner of Police Ramrao Pawar said, “We have come to know about his extra-marital affair.We spoke to members of his family about it but they declined to comment. They are in a state of shock and it is not known whether anybody was blackmailing him. Investigations are on.”


Gaikwad is survived by his wife and three children.


Police sources said Gaikwad was under tremendous pressure after he was ticked off by his seniors over his conduct. Just a few days ago, he was told by his seniors that there were complaints against him which they would not be able to ignore if he didn’t sort out his life. Gaikwad was due to retire in July next year.


Gaikwad shot himself with a 9mm revolver after returning to his office from a meeting at Azad Maidan Police club.The 1981 batch Maharashtra Police Service officer changed his clothes and asked his orderly for his service revolver.Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal said, “It appears Gaikwad took this step because of personal problems.
