Ten people have been rushed to a hospital. Police said the area has been surrounded for search operations.

Today’s attack comes a day after an Army vehicle was targeted with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the district, in which two soldiers died and 16 others were injured. An armoured vehicle of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles was completely damaged in the IED blast near Arihal village in Pulwama.

Last week, Pakistan had informed the Indian High Commission in Islamabad about a possible attack in Pulwama. The information was shared with the US as well.

Jammu and Kashmir has been grappling with terror even as 10 security personnel were killed in just five days in the state. An armyman was killed in a gunbattle with terrorists in the state’s Anantnag district today. Two terrorists, including the man who owned the explosive-laden car used in the suicide bombing of the CRPF convoy in Pulwama in February, were shot dead in the encounter.
