20 Sikh pilgrims feared dead as train rams bus in Pakistan

Islamabad, Jul 03, 2020: At least twenty Sikh pilgrims are feared dead when the bus in which they were travelling was hit by a train near Sheikhupura in Pakistan on Friday afternoon.

The bus was hit at an unmanned railway crossing by the Karachi bound Shah Hussain Express.

The Sikh pilgrims were travelling from Peshawar and the bus had 27 people on board, police said.

Police transported the dead and the injured to a nearby hospital.

The pilgrims were returning from Nankana Sahib.

Mourning the accident, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted, “Deeply saddened at the accident this afternoon at a railway crossing near Sheikhupura which resulted in the death of at least 20 people, mainly Sikh pilgrims returning from Nankana Sahib. Have directed that proper medical care be provided to the injured,”?Khan tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also mourned the death of the Sikh pilgrims in Pakistan.
