Karnataka Sangha Dubai organizes dance/drawing competition for UAE Kannadigas

Dubai Sep 26, 2012 :  Karnataka Sangha Dubai hosted a dance competition for Kannada-speaking people in the UAE on September 21 at Westminster School in Dubai.

The purpose was to give Kannada-speaking people a chance to showcase their dancing talents. Called Puravnkara Dance Cup 2012, it has been sponsored by Puravankar Projects of Bangalore.  The winners will qualify for the grand Rajyotsava Day celebrations, scheduled for November 9, 2012.

Groups belonging to different communities and institutes took part in this competition, which was held in four categories—Below 15, Above 15, Folk Dance, and Professional Dance.

The important people present were President Girish Shetty, Vice President K. R. Tantry, Puravankar AGM Nagesh Udupi, and others.

The judges were Hitesh Rajani and Vikyath Poojary, winners of Jalak Dikhlaja UAE; Ms. Shama Rani Shenoy, a choreographer and Bharathnatyam instructor; and Shri Vidya, who has a Ph.D. in dance.

A drawing competition was also held from 3:00 p.m. in three categories—Below 5, Five to Eight Years, and Eight to Fifteen Years. The theme of the competition was “Tourist Place/Spot of Karnataka. The judges for this event were B. K. Ganesh Rai, Kavita Krishnamoorthy, and Sheela Krishnamoorthy.

Gammath Kalavidaru presented a humorous skit on this occasion.

Ms. Lina Benedict, GM (Middle East operations) of Puravankar, was the chief guest of the event. She was honored with a gift hamper and a memento.

Trophies and mementos were then distributed among the winners.
