Sharq United emerges champion of 4th KCWA Cricket Cup

Kuwait , Nov 19, 2011 : The Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) organized the 4th KCWA Cricket Cup 2011 on KOC Grounds in Ahmadi on Nov 18 Friday.

Ten teams participated in this tournament, which was meant exclusively for the members of the KCWA. Sharq United won the trophy for the third time. This team emerged as the finalist in all the four KCWA Cricket Cup events held so far and had missed the trophy only once.

KCWA President Stephen Machado delivered the welcome address. The teams were then divided into two and the top two teams in each group were entered into the semi finals.

In the semi-finals Sharq United defeated KICC-B and Udupi Friends defeated Mangalore Friends. In the finals, Sharq United won the trophy after beating Udupi Friends by 5 runs.

So, the champions are Sharq United and the runners up are Udupi Friends. The best batsman is Dian Fernandes, the best bowler and player of the tournament is Arun of Udupi Friends, and the man of the match is Ryan Almeida of Sharq United.

Pascal Pinto, the former KCWA president, and officials of the KOC Cricket Committee Iqbal Vanu, Shubrath, Mohammed Sarwar and former presidents Rudy D’Souza and Jossie Pinto and sponsors were present for the valedictory ceremony, during which the trophies and medals were distributed among the winners. A lucky draw also formed part of the event.

Archie Menezes was the referee. Rudy D’Souza, Deepak, Wilfred Lobo, and Prashanth D’Souza were the commentators. The coordinators of the event were Naveen Mascarehnas, Manohar Prabhu, and Alex Rego.
