Austin Prabhu first person to become district governor twice

Chicago, June 16: The Governor’s Installation and District Cabinet Awards Banquet was organized by the District 1-A Mother District of Lionism at Aviana Banquet Hall in Palos Hills, Chicago.

Austin Prabhu became the first person to become district governor for the second time. In his address, Austin thanked his wife Terry, family members, and the Forest Kala Sampath Lions Club for their support.

The Lions of Illinois Foundation Awards were conferred on Andreas Brant, Tina Gaddy, and Ken Accola by Ray Jachim. Austin Prabhu, the representative of the US Presidents’ Community Service Awards, conferred the President’s Life Time Community Service Award on Frank Kirar in recognition and appreciation of services rendered to Lionism in District 1-A.

Dan O’Reilly, the international director, conferred the International President’s Award on Mike Smigielski. Mr. O’Reilly then thanked all the lions for their support, stating that it was a great experience to travel the length and breadth of US to promote Lionism and represent District 1-A, MD1, and Lions Club International.

Jerry Novak installed Ralph Koller as the foundation trustee and District Governor Steve Anton installed Dave Hansen as the second vice district governor and Austin Prabhu as the first vice district governor. Dennis McMillar installed Wes Salsbury as the incoming governor for the current year. Governor Steve Anton conferred the Melvin Jones Fellowship on Kathleen Messmer for her service to humanity. He also presented plaques to the cabinet members for their service to the district.

Austin Prabhu introduced his special guest Rosane Jahnke Vilatti of Brazil, the previous international director, who was on a visit to Chicago. Addressing the gathering, she thanked the lions of District 1-A, her host, and all the cabinet members.
