Yakshamitra UAE presents 8-hour Yakshagana ballet show

Dubai, June 14: Yakshamitra UAE presented Shambhavi Vijaya, an 8-hour Kannada Yakshagana ballet show on June 10 at 3:30 p.m. at the auditorium of Emirates English Speaking School. The venue was adorned with a ranga mantapa and a hoovina uyyale (a cradle of flowers) for the Devi.

Shambhavi Vijaya is usually performed as an offering for the Devi, and Yakshamitra UAE were assisted by a 3-member team from India, which had flown to Dubai for the first time. The bhagawatha was Bhagavathar Patla Sathish Shetty of Shri Kateel Mela. Yakshagana artist Gerukatte Gangayya Shetty played the role of Mahishasura. The chende (drums) were played by Adoor Laxminarayan Rao. The background musicians were accompanied by Madhoor Laxminarayan, Venkatesh Shastri, Jagannath Bellare, and Sharath Kumar.

The purohit performed a traditional pooja after which the show began with the handing over of the ranga mantapa to the bhagavathar. The chief guests were then escorted to the stage and the event was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp. Prestigious people such as community leaders, presidents and executive members of various UAE-based Kannada associations, entrepreneurs, along with friends and supporters of Yakshamitra UAE as well as Yakshagana fans were present for the event.

Renowned guest artists were also felicitated on the occasion. Gerukatte Gangayya Shetty was awarded the Yakshagana Kala Bhargawa on the occasion. The Bhagawatha Kala Praveena Award was conferred on Patla Sathish Shetty. The Yakshagana Kala Kirana was conferred on Adoor Laxminarayana Rao. The recipients of the award had arrived at the UAE for the first time in their lives. They were all honored with fruits, flowers, shawls, mementos, and awards.

The performers were Gerukatte Gangayya Shetty, Gishore Gatty Ravi Uchil, Sudhakar Thumbe, Shekar D. Shettigar, Balakrishna D. Shettigar, Harish M. S. Yeyyadi, Asha Correa, Donald Correa, Anikethan Sharma, Sharanya Venkatesh Shastri, Bhavanishanker Sharma, Krishna Prasad Bhat, Harish Kamath, Santhosh Karmar, Chidanand Poojary, and many others.

The make up artist was P. V. Paramesh, who had flown all the way from India; the stage was set by Chidanand Poojary and his team; and the back stage helpers were Dinesh Poojary, Sathish Ullal, Rajesh Kuthar, Kishore Poojary, Rajesh Shetty Ajman, and others. The lighting and sound effects were arranged by Prasad Rai. Vittal Shetty was the MC and Dinesh Shetty was the organizer.

All the artists were honored with mementos at the end of the event. Ramesh Manjeshwar of Yaksha Bahrain was felicitated with flowers. Senior artists such as Anil Nayak, Shrinivas Bhat, and others came from India to witness this show. Media representatives were also given mementos
