Mangalore Konkans to honor award-winning artist Peter Anselm Lewis

Dubai, May 7: Mangalore Konkans Dubai will felicitate Peter Anselm Lewis, a Brahmavar-based artist, at India Club on May 7, Saturday. Mr. Lewis will also give away the prizes to the winners of Sketching and Paintbrush Challenge, a competition organized by the Mangalore Konkans Dubai. He will later conduct a workshop to help children hone their drawing and painting skills.


 

Joanne Pereira who did her postgraduate studies in fine arts in the US will also address the audience on the topic of fine arts and related professions such as graphics and designing, architecture, and others and will guide students interested in such careers. A question and answer session will later be held, after which dinner will be served. Only those invited for this event will be permitted entry.


Mangalore Konkans Dubai had conducted a competition called Sketching and Paintbrush Challenge on April 15 for the Konkani-speaking people in the UAE. It was held in two categories for those in the age group of 12 – 18 and for those aged above 18. This contest was the first of its kind held in Dubai.


 


Mr. Lewis is an award-winning artist based in Brahmavar. The Sir J. J. School of Arts had conferred a gold medal on his in recognition of his artistic achievements. He won many more awards and honors, especially from the All India Dasara Art Exhibition and the State Lalit Kala Academy. He also has to his credit a Rajyotsava Award in 1990 and a Roerich Memorial Award in 1996. Mr. Lewis also operates Chitralaya, an art school in Brahmavar, where children are taught painting and drawing.
