Kuwait: Stephen Machado is KCWA’s new president

Kuwait, March 19: Mr. Stephen Machado has been unanimously elected to the post of president of Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) for 2011 – 13 during the KCWA’s general body meeting held on March 18, Friday at ICSK Auditorium in Salmiya.

Mr. Machado, who is a member of Karkala Parish, had been the president of KCWA in 2005 – 07. In fact, he has been a KCWA member for several years. He is also well known for his acting and compering skills.

The members of the KCWA executive committee for 2011 – 13 are Stephen B. Machado (president), Nithin Castelino (vice president), Mable Andrade (assistant general secretary), Anil Fernandes (treasurer - general), Wilson Pinto (treasurer – cultural affairs), Melwin Monis (auditor), Praveen Menezes (members’ affairs coordinator), Kiran Gonsalves (cultural secretary), Dr. Manohar Prabhu (sports secretary), Anil Menezes (public relations officer), and Vijay D’Souza (liturgical services and education fund coordinator).


An election commission comprising Rony Suares, Jovita Fernandes, and Rudy D’Souza ensured the smooth flow of the election process. Vijay D’Souza presented the annual report.


The KCWA, which is now 23 years old, provides educational funds for poor children in the Mangalore Diocese and has set up educational funds in all parishes. It organizes leisure activities, entertainment programmes, and contests for the members and their children in Kuwait. So far, KCWA has donated Rs. 2 crore for charity.
