Konkani Divas 2010 Celebrated by Konkani Kullvar Kuwait

Kuwait,  August 22: The Konkani Divas 2010 was celebrated by the Konkani Kullvar Kuwait on 20 August 2010 at Indian community senior School, Salmiya,Kuwait. The Konkani Kullvar Kuwait is a forum working to keep Konkani language and culture alive in Kuwait. The whole programme was dedicated to the memory of the famous and most popular Mangalorean Konkani singer-Konkan Kogul Late Wilfred Rebimbus.

 


The auditorium was filled with Konkani loving Mangaloreans and also some Goans. The programme started with incence(dhump) by chief guest and all members of Konkan Kullvar Kuwait.Lancy Pinto Nayak welcomed the gathering and Shan Bondel spoke about the importance of the Konkani Divas. In his speach he paid rich tribute to Konkan Kogul late Wilfy Rebimbus. One minute silent prayer was offered for the soul of late Wilfy Rebimbus.

 

 

 

 



Lidya Misquith welcomed the gathering for the entertainment programme. Local singers-Joyline Gonsalves,Jovita Fernandes, Lancy Rodrigues,Cynthiya Pinto,Wilfred Lobo aand Sunitha D’Souza paid tribute to Wilfy Rebimbus by singing Konkani songs from his albums. Sumith Noronha and Anil Pais provided music. Fr. Harry sang ‘Chaar Disancho Saunsar’ and mesmerised the audience. Kiran Lobo and Peter Pereira presented jokes and regaled the audience who laughed their heart out.

 


 


 

 

 

 


Gracian D’Souza was felicitated by Fr. Harry with garland, fruits, memento shawl, citation and headgear (mundas). In his speech, Gracian thanked all the Konkani lovers for honouring him.

Main attraction of the event was the Konkani play "Shivonn" (stiching) a story based on a tailor, written and acted as shivankaar (tailor) by Shaan Bondel. Other actors and actresses included Sera D’Silva, Mable Andrade, Antony Menezes, Anil Fernandes, and Jeremiah Vaz from Goa. The play was directed by Lancy Pinto Nayak.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed the play. In between refreshments werre served to all and surprize gifts were given for all age groups. Christine Pinto proposed the vote of thanks.
