‘Symposium on Evidence-Based Clinical Practice’ Examines Intricacies of Evidence-based Approach

Ajman, May 09, 2018 : Organized by the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the symposium was attended by healthcare professionals from across the country.


As part of the efforts to address the most important issues related to the application ofevidence-based medicine anddeveloping clinical practice guidelines, the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University (GMU) – Ajman in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi conducted the ‘Symposium on Evidence-Based Clinical Practice’ at DusitThani Hotel, Dubai, on 5th May, 2018.

Renowned academicians and leading practitioners delivered talks on the various aspects of evidence-based practice. The symposium provided an opportunity to discuss developments in evidence-based practice and developing clinical practice guidelines, for improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare in the country.Doctors and academicians also sharedtheir experiences and educated the participants about the steps needed to advance the work on evidence-based clinical practice.

•  Critical Appraisal of a research article (Activity): Dr. SubishPalaian, Associate Professor, College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University

•  Application of evidence-based practice in Nephrology: Dr. Wasim El Nekiddy, Senior Pharmacotherapy Specialist – Nephrology, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi

•  Evidence based practice from research to publication: Dr. Mohamed Hisham, Clinical Staff Pharmacist, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi&Dr. Dixon Thomas, Asst. Professor & Chair,College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University

Prof. SheriefKhalifa, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University said the symposium covered key features of evidence-based clinical practice. “The collaboration of Gulf Medical University with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD) signed in February 2018 was instrumental in planning this successful program,” he said, adding thatimprovements in evidence-based clinical practice would result in better patient outcomes.
