Doha: Ideal Indian School building handed over

Doha, July 6: Ideal Indian School children’s long wait for a permanent building is over. The students of Qatar’s second oldest Indian school will be moving to the newly constructed spacious school premises in Abu Hamour in the third week of September.

 

 

 

The new school complex comprises five multi-storied buildings, including a separate administration block.

At a ceremony held at the new school building yesterday, its contractors Hamton International formally handed over the key of the complex to its authorities, signaling the completion of their two-year-long effort.

Though the foundation stone for the project, comprising  more than 140 rooms was laid almost five years ago on July 25, 2005 by the then Indian ambassador Ranjan Mathai, the work could be taken up only three years later.

Chairman of the Hamton International M P Hassan Kunhi, who was the former president of the school’s governing body, said the project was completed “on schedule”.

Kunhi said his company has the immense satisfaction of completing a quality school building in record time. At the meeting yesterday, head of the school’s building committee P T Yoonus formally received its keys from Kunhi. In turn the former handed it over to governing council chief Mohamed Iqbal.

Later, the school authorities said that they have already started shifting and installing all necessary equipment from the present building in Mamoura to the new location.

Iqbal felt the move to the new building symbolised “a truly exciting phase” in the school’s development. While lauding the efforts of the contractors, the president said the company did a good job by completing the project on time.   

Second secretary at the Indian embassy M R Qureshi was the chief guest. School managing committee officials general secretary Binu Gafoor, joint secretary  Mohd Nizar, treasurer M Asharaf, Dr Abraham Kollamana other members of managing committee, founder members, principal Dr Mohamed Aejaz, project engineer Binu Kumar , heads of different sections and school staff also attended the meeting yesterday.

Mementos of appreciation were awarded to the main contractor and sub-contractors.

Managing partner of Hamton International Saji Paul welcomed the gathering and managing director John Jacob proposed a vote of thanks.

With the completion of the new complex, Ideal Indian School would be the third Indian educational institution to move into its own building after MES Indian School and Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS).

Altogether there are eight Indian schools in the country, besides one in Al Khor which offers Indian curriculum also.

After the ceremony, the invitees were taken on a tour of inspection of the school buildings. Now in the 25th year of its inception, the school has more than 4,000 students, according to its managing committee members. (Gulftimes)
