Dubai, June 20: The UAE-based Amchigele Samaj hosted Bhajan Sandhya on June 17 Friday at the auditorium of the Canadian University in Dubai in a bid to help the GSB community in the Gulf remain in touch with their culture.
Pragathi Shenoy presented the schedule and President Ajith Nayak welcomed the gathering. Ms Shenoy then introduced all the artistes who would present the Bhajan Sandhya.
Chief performer Shri Shankar Shanbogue was accompanied by Shri Satyavijay Bhat on table, Shri Sachin Kamath on kanjira, and Shri Shankan Shenoy Padubidri on harmonium. Shri Shankar Shanbogue is one of the best young Hindustani classical singers of the time. Although he has a diploma in mechanical engineering, he is devoted to music. He had performed at the Babylon Festival in Iraq in 1997, in UK in 1993, and also in Canada, US, and the Maldives.
Shri Shanbogue sang bhajans in Kannada, Marathi, and Hindi. Some of the bhajans presented by Shri Shanbogue and his troupe are “Bhagyada Laxmi Baaramma,” “Jai Bolo Hanuman Ki,” “Vaishnava Janatho,” and “Krishna Ni Begane Baro.”
The troupe was later felicitated with peta, shawls, fruit baskets, and garlands by the office bearers of Amchigele Samaj. The office bearers of various community organizations of Karnataka, who had attended the programme, were also felicitated on the occasion.
Some of them were Sarvottam Shetty, the president of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha; Ganesh Rai, the ex president of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah; Noel D. Almeida, the ex president of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah; Arun Kumar, the founder member of Dubai Kannada Koota; Prakash Rao Payyar, the president of Dubai Dhwani Prathishtan; Jayanth Shetty, the treasurer of Karnataka Sangha Dubai; and Shodhan Prasad, the social worker.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Shankar Shanbogue said that he is touched by the gesture of UAE Amchigele Samaj and thanked everybody for the affection showered on him.
Vice President Sudarshan Hegde proposed the vote of thanks.
