State of the art Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery department opens at GMC hospital, Ajman

Ajman, UAE, Jan 22, 2015: One of the leading healthcare providers in the region, GMC (Thumbay Group) Hospital has added another feather to its cap by inaugurating a state-of-the-art plastic and reconstructive department in Ajman.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In this region, plastic surgery has been mistaken as aesthetic surgery alone. The department at debunks this myth and expounds on the true repertoire of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery says Dr. Punam Bijlani, Consultant and Head of the Department, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

Ms. Khadija Ibrahim, Director Medical License Department at Ministry of Health, Ajman Medical District inaugurated the department in the presence of Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Provost Gulf Medical University, Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay Director Healthcare and Retail, Thumbay Group UAE, and the hospital management.

Explaining about the services, Dr. Bijlani said “The department not only undertakes all contemporary aesthetic procedures and surgeries which has hogged the limelight these days, but also performs the entire gamut of hand and reconstructive surgery for cancer, trauma and congenital anomalies. We have already conducted surgeries for burn contractures and uncommon neoplasms”, she added.

In addition to aesthetics, the department has a multipronged approach to body contouring where the patient participates in the procedure along with the plastic surgeon supported by a nutritionist and a fitness therapist. Unlike other departments  and clinics where patients are operated and then left to their own devices  to deal with nutrition and exercise and maintain the surgical results, the patient in our hospital  is supported till they have regained their confidence and then the support is weaned off. This is the key factor in maintaining the shape and the differentiating element of this department.
 
Dr. Punam Bijlani has had her board qualifications, from the prestigious Grant Medical College, Mumbai, India and trained in aesthetic surgery at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the world renowned Prof. Ivo Pitanguy, Santa Casa de Misericordia, Pontifical Catholic University. Dr. Bijlani has been a consultant plastic surgeon at Jaslok Hospital and Research Center, from 2001 to 2012 and at Saifee Hospital, Mumbai from 2006, Professor at Grant Medical College in Plastic Surgery, Mumbai, India.

She brings with her 18 years of experience in Plastic Surgery, with special expertise in Aesthetic Surgery for body contouring  in women and men(liposuctions, tummy tucks, breast surgeries etc), face surgery (facelifts, neck lifts, blepharoplasty etc.), Congenital anomalies (cleft lip, polydactyly, syndactyly etc.), Reconstructive surgeries( post trauma, cancer and burns). In addition she handles all outpatient rejuvenation procedures (botox, fillers, laser, and thermage).
