Sharjah, 03 December 2010: Managalore Konkans lifted the prestigious Lourdes Kanajar cup in well fought Throw ball tournament hosted by Lourdes Kanajar Association Emirates after it defeated Bunts Dubai in finals here today, while Ace Spikers emerged as the winners in Volleyball tournament after defeating Saifa Friends in nail biting finish.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lourdes Kanajar Association Emirates showcased their organizing abilities once again for the consecutive 7th year when they conducted successfully the much awaited Volleyball and Throwball Tournament at Sharjah Wonderers Club grounds here today. It was a thrilling sport event contested by 16 volleyball teams and 6 throw ball teams.
It was a lovely morning to begin with. The curtain for the sport event raised sharp at 8.30 am with a prayer by Fr.Annie Xavier, Parish Priest – St Michaels Church Sharjah and lighting the torch and releasing the balloons. He called upon all teams to participate in harmony and respect towards each other, to participate with enthusiasm and wished good luck to all. LKAE President Joy D’Souza welcomed the gathering in a short opening ceremony and the participating teams were addressed by well known businessman Frank Lobo and Sports Secretary of the Association Stan D’Souza. He stressed about the tolerance of all participating teams to uphold true spirit of the game.

Vijay Barboza took the oath on behalf of the sport persons while Mr.Walter Nandalike, Managing Editor of www.daijiworld.com was the chief guest.. Both UAE and Indian national anthems were played by Steve D’Souza and cake was cut by all committee members on this occasion. Momentos were presented to all participating teams in memory of decennial celebrations of their association. The event was compeered by well known personalities Uttam Menezes and Gilbert Aranha who has successfully compeered several events in the past and his ability to captivate the audience by his multilingual talent deserves much appreciation.

Throw ball teams from Mangalore Konkans, Jashan Dubai,Konkans Dubai and Kanarites were then invited to begin the first match.All the matches were keenly contested by all teams with true sportsman spirit. The organizers made sure that the matches went on as scheduled with their outstanding organizing capabilities without any hassle which was appreciated by all. In the morning session league matches were conducted.

Sumptuous traditional hot buffet lunch was served by well known Canara Resaturant while afternoon high tea lifted the spirits of gathered. Morning breakfast was served by Woodlands restaurant Sharjah. Also the snacks counters were serving the delicious food throughout the day. Afternoon session started with fiercely fought semifinals between Mangalore Konkans & Konkans Dubai and Bunts Dubai & Kanarites.

Prior to the prize distribution ceremony an auction was called for the remaining coupons for the lucky draw. Jane Aranha finally took all the remaining coupons and supported the noble cause of educating the poor students.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Joseph Mathais of Merit Freight System, Frank Lobo of Galaxy Star Electo-mechanical works and office bearers of LKAE Joy D’Souza, Aloysius D’Souza, Thomas Saldanha, Wilfred.

Thomas Saldanha proposed vote of thanks. He specially thanked all sponsors, well wishers, commentators – Melwyn Lewis & Santhosh D’Souza they made each and every moment of the game very interesting, Volley ball referees Moideen and team, throw ball referees Sudhakar Alva, Satish Shetty also Noel D’Almeida for providing moral support. Aloysius D’Souza who is the main brain behind this tournament is all the way from Qatar came down to make this tournament successful.

It is really appreciable the spirits of all the members of Lourdes Kanajar Association Emirates who have put in all their efforts behind the successful tournament under the leadership of Joy D’Souza.The whole day the events concluded around 6.30 pm.
