GMU’s partnership with Osaka vity university. Japan progresses to the next level

Ajman, Aug. 27: The partnership between Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman and the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, Osaka City University (OCU) has progressed to a higher and more comprehensive level of mutually beneficial opportunities, opening up a host of benefits to students, faculty and researchers of both universities.

A MoU to this effect, significantly enhancing the scope and breadth of collaborative undertakings in medical education and research was signed on 9 th August 2019, by Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor of GMU and Prof. Kenji Ohata, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka City University.

GMU, the Middle East region’s leading medical university and OCU, one of Japan’s most prestigious universities are already tied up for student exchanges and joint educational and training programs. Advancing the discipline of medicine and contributing to the betterment of healthcare delivery and research has always been at the heart of the collaborative partnership between both the universities. GMU has already been hosting OCU students for the observership program as part of their MBBS program in Japan, in addition to regularly networking and interacting with the academicians, students and researchers on the other side, making the collaboration a fruitful association for advancing its strategic directions.This academic year, GMU had four OCU students - all of them 6 th year MBBS students - who were at the GMU Academic Health System for a month-long stint.

The new MoU seeks to strengthen the collaboration between both the universities in terms of student and faculty exchanges, internships for medical students as well as joint research activities. Both universities will also explore opportunities for jointly developing short-term and certificate programs in addition to jointly organizing conferences, seminars and workshops. The partnership with Osaka City University is one of the several collaborations activated by GMU, to expand the horizons of knowledge and professional interactions for its students, empowering them to transform into global healthcare professionals.

Prof. Hossam Hamdy said that the collaboration would open up avenues and opportunities for broader collaborations between both universities. “The collaboration with Osaka City University is in line with GMU’s vision to be a leading international academic healthcare institution through the integration of quality health professions education, research, healthcare and social accountability for sustainable community development. We look forward to a long-lasting partnership benefiting both the universities and the respective countries, in the long term,” he added.

GMU provides a number of collaborative programs with distinguished academic institutes and universities, such as the University of Arizona, University of Paris, Medical University of Lublin –Poland, Tokyo Medical and Dental University - Japan, China etc. This is part of the internationalization of GMU, offering its students the chance to learn and get training in the USA, Europe, China, Japan and France. GMU receives students from more than 80 countries as its reputation and image goes beyond the region.
