Kuwait, November 8: The Agnesia Alumnae Kuwait (AAK) celebrated its fifth anniversary by organizing the grand “Fifth Spark” on the premises of the Indian Community School in Salmiya Kuwait on Nov 5, Friday.

Reema Lasrado, the president of AAK, delivered the welcome address and thanked Dr. Sr. Marie Prem and Sr. Maria Lytta, who were the chief guests of the event. AAK Secretary Annet Castelino read the annual report and introduced Dr. Sr. Marie Prem, principal of St. Agnes College, who had flown in from Mangalore to participate in this event, and Sr. Maria Lytta, principal of Carmel School, Kuwait.


Diana D’Souza and Reema Lasrado presented a cheque to Dr. Sr. Marie Prem. Founder members Diany Cutinho, Felcita D’Souza, Jackie Alphonso, Ivy Sequiera, Maizy D’Souza, Kavitha D’Souza, Letitia D’Costa, Crystal Noronha, Babitha Sequeira, Jovita D’Souza, Anita Lewis, Olivia Pinto, Sarina Lewis, Anita Fernandes, and Leena Fernandes were escorted to the dais to sing the college anthem and cut the anniversary cake. Dr. Sr. Marie Prem released a souvenir in honour of the event. Dr. Sr. Marie Prem thanked the Agnesian alumnae of Kuwait for helping the poor girls and women of the alma mater in Mangalore, following which Annet read out the letter from Sr. Olivia.

The entire event was focused on women and some of the highlights were Eve-Olution, a dance-drama by Jovas XLNC; foot-tapping dances by D’illusions and Ballerines, two popular dance schools. Dance performances were also given by the members of the alumnae and kids.


The sponsors and co-sponsors of the event were felicitated with mementos. The children of ex-Agnesians, who secured distinctions in 10th and 12th standards, were rewarded and prizes were distributed for competitions held on Oct 29.


After the vote of thanks proposed by Diana D’Souza, food was served. Spot prizes and dance sessions marked the end of the programme, which was compered by Lolita Fronteiro and Annet Castelino. The music was provided by Kiran and the sound effects and lighting was provided by Anand D’Souza of Illuminations.

The AAK was launched five years ago in order to provide financial assistance for the education of poor, but deserving students at St. Agnes College and give its members a chance to exhibit their talents via a number of activities organized by it. The organization has already organized events such as Santa’s Treat, Charity Bazaar, Joyeux Navidad 2006 and 2007, 60th Indian Independence, food festivals, sports events, and many more.
